Fox News parent News Corp gives $1 million to buy politicians - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com
Politico’s Ben Smith is reporting that News Corp which owns Fox News, the Wall Street Journal and hundreds of other media outlets and publications, “gave $1 million dollars to Haley Barbour's Republican Governors Association, according to their most recent filings.”
But that doesn’t sound fair, corporations buying politicians, well, thanks to the Supreme Court ruling earlier this year, Corporations are now considered “People”.
In the case Citizens United v Federal Election Commission the right wing activist judges placed on the Supreme Court by former President Bush, voted 5-4 in the case and said federal restrictions on corporate spending in elections constituted a violation of free speech. Critics called it wrong to equate corporate "speech" with individual speech and said the ruling would allow special-interest money to flood election campaigns.
