Ross Miller to introduce Campaign Finance reform legislation, again - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

Secretary of State Ross Miller today will introduce campaign finance reform legislation to Nevada legislators. The two Bills, AB 81 and AB 82, would make sure that candidates disclose who and were their donations are coming from BEFORE voters go to the polls and vote. And I say ‘again’ because Miller has twice before submitted similar legislation

According to the Secretary of State Nevada has received an “F” in our States campaign disclosure laws from the Campaign Disclosure Project of the UCLA School of Law, the Center for Governmental Studies and the Pew Charitable Trusts. Seems that every time you pick up a paper these days, Nevada is receiving an “F” in something.

Ross Miller wrote on his blog:

Last Thursday Senator Harry Reid and Federal Transit Administrator Peter Rogoff toured a new project that will add a dedicated bus lane on Sahara Avenue in order to cut congestion on the heavily traveled road, making it easier to get to the strip or to downtown Las Vegas.

The “Sahara Express Bus Rapid Transit line” project is part of 51 projects that were approved in February 2010 for cities around the country by the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Grants program, utilizing funds from the Recovery Act that was signed into law in 2009 by President Obama.

The project has been granted $34.4 million and is expected to create as many as 500 jobs in Nevada according to the DoT announcement released earlier today.

Wisconsin protest rallies spread to all 50 States - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

Yesterday in Madison, WI. an estimated crowd size of 70,000 to 100,000 people gathered in frigid weather to protest Governor Scott Walker and the republican controlled legislature who are trying to kill the States public unions. The protest in Madison was the largest seen in the State capitol since the Vietnam War and it was also the largest crowd since Wisconsin workers first started protesting about two weeks ago.

Early this past Friday morning the republicans in the Assembly passed Governor Walker’s union busting Bill. The State Senators still have to vote on the Bill before it can be signed by Walker, but they need the States democratic Senators to be present in order to have a three-fifths quorum which is required for the vote to take place.

Currently, the Senate democrats have not made themselves available for a vote, and they have said that they will not be available until Walker removes the portion of the Bill that takes away collective bargaining rights for unions. The unions have already agreed to wage cuts and benefit cuts.

Early this morning around 1:00 am the Wisconsin State Assembly republicans passed Governor Walker’s budget repair bill which also removed collective bargaining rights for the teachers union. (video on left)

The vote by the assembly in Wisconsin is still not a done deal however because the State senators still have to vote on the Bill. But the 14 democrats in the senate have fled to another State, which prevents the state Senate from having the three-fifths quorum required to take a vote on the budget. Governor Walker last week ordered State police to track them down.

Another Federal Judge rules health care reforms are Constitutional - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

District of Columbia Federal Judge Gladys Kessler has ruled that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care act, aka Obamacare, is constitutionally legal.

Her ruling is now the third to rule that the health care reforms signed into law on March 23, 2010 meet constitutional requirements. The other two judges, one in Virginia and one in Michigan have also ruled the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act constitutional.

Two judges, one in Florida and another in Virginia, have ruled the law unconstitutional, saying the individual mandate requiring all Americans, starting in 2014, to buy health insurance or face a fine exceeds Congress’ constitutional authority.

The conservative Christian legal group and the American Center for Law and Justice represented the suit on behalf of five individuals who by choice have gone without health insurance for several years.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) will be addressing the full body of the Nevada Legislature today at 11:00am, and rumors of his speech have Nevada’s Brothel industry worried.

Apparently the brothel industry believes that Reid will call on the legislature to end the legal sex trade industry in all counties because it makes Nevada look sleazy to outside business’s.

Reno Gazette-Journal's Ray Hagar first broke the story yesterday after talking with George Flint, a lobbyist for the Nevada brothel industry, and Dennis Hof, owner of three legal brothels in Nevada.

‘Fox Lies’ chanted at Fox reporter by American workers in Wisconsin (Video) - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

Fox Business Reporter Jeff Flock was shouted down with the words “Fox Lies“ by American workers who are protesting in the State Capitol building in Madison WI.

Fox lies, two simply words which even Jeff Flock the "Fox Business" reporter at the scene, believes to be true, he as much as admitted it. His first reaction was to try an separate "Fox Business" from the "Fox News" channel, he mentions it more than once. Why? Because he knows that Fox News Lies.

We heard dozens in the crowd chanting Fox Lies, the camera panned on several holding signs, but in the end, there was just the one guy shouting, that’s when the "Fox Business" reporter tried to make it sound as if it was just the one guy the whole time.

Las Vegas Mayoral candidate Chris Giunchigliani first campaign video - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

Las Vegas Mayoral candidate and current Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani released her first campaign video today.

If you have lived in Las Vegas for awhile you may know her as Chris G. because many of our TV pundits and News broadcasters occasionally have trouble pronouncing her last name. Her first video (which is fun to watch) is designed to help Las Vegans learn how to pronounce her last name.

The video is lighthearted and an excellent introduction announcing her bid to become the next Mayor of Las Vegas now that Mayor Oscar Goodman is term limited and can no longer run..

Currently 15 people have announced their candidacy for Mayor of Las Vegas, including the wife of the current Mayor, Carolyn Goodman.

Stay tuned for further coverage of all the Mayoral candidates in the coming days.

But in the mean time, I recommend that you click here and watch Chris Giunchigliani (June-kil-e-ah-nee) and her first video, it’s a very cleaver and witty introduction.

Tea Party pays less in taxes under Obama for 3rd year in a row - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

For the 3rd year in a row Americans have seen their taxes lower with President Obama then they did under Bush.

Just before this past Sunday’s Super Bowl, President Obama gave an interview with Fox News pundit Bill O’Reilly and in the interview the President told O’Reilly “I didn’t raise taxes once. I lowered taxes over the last two years.”

The Associated Press (AP) wanted to fact check the Presidents statement and asked the Congressional Budget Office for the numbers over the last two years, and the CBO showed that President Obama was correct.
