Sandoval picks Rep. Dean Heller to finish Ensign’s Senate term - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

Nevada Republican Governor Brian Sandoval said today that he will appoint Rep. Dean Heller (R-NV) to finish Senator John Ensign's senate term, and dashed any hopes of Nevada democrats that he would appoint a caretaker to fill the seat until the 2012 General election.

By appointing Rep. Dean Heller, a Special election will be held within six months to fill Heller’s House seat. The Secretary of State Ross Miller said today he has not yet determined if their will be an open election or if party committee members would pick their candidates. But a decision will be forthcoming.

“He is in the process of reviewing all available information,” said Pam duPre, spokeswoman for the Secretary of State’s office. “He is going to work closely with the governor and will announce how a special election will proceed once the governor announces the date of the special election.”

Sharron Angle may have to run as an Independent for US Congress - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

Sharron Angle may have to run as an Independent for US Congress - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

Sharron Angle (R-NV) who has never been well received by the Nevada GOP establishment, may have to run as a third party candidate if the Secretary of State announces that party committee leaders would pick the candidates to run for republican congressman Dean Heller’s 2nd Congressional District seat (CD2) if it opens up.

Last month after Senator John Ensign (R-NV) first announced that he would not seek reelection, Dean Heller quickly announced (the very next day) that he would run for the Senate in 2012. And right behind Heller’s announcement came an announcement by Sharron Angle that she would run for Heller’s congressional seat (CD2).

But now, in the wake of Ensign’s announced resignation there is speculation that Nevada’s republican Governor Brian Sandoval will appoint Dean Heller to finish Ensign’s senate term which ends in 2012.

Breaking: Senator John Ensign who last month announced that he will be retiring and not seek reelection in 2012, is now reported to be resigning as soon as tomorrow.

If true Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval might pick Ensign’s replacement. And that pick would certainly be Republican Rep. Dean Heller (CD2), who had already announced his intentions of running for Ensign’s seat the day after Ensign announced his retirement.

Nevada Rep. Dean Heller and House Republicans vote to kill Medicare - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

Nevada Rep. Dean Heller and House Republicans vote to kill Medicare - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

Today the US House of Representatives voted and passed the 2012 budget that was put forth by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI). The republican Bill will kill Medicare and replace it with a voucher program and leave senior citizens to fend for themselves trying to find an insurance company that will accept them. The vote was 238-193.

The budget Bill H.CON.RES.34, Titled: ‘Establishing the budget for the United States Government for fiscal year 2012 and setting forth appropriate budgetary levels for fiscal years 2013 through 2021‘, will not even balance the budget until 2040 according to the CBO. But it will make trillions for the health care industry as it privatizes what was once Medicare. (Bill Summary: Library of Congress)

Rep. Dean Heller (R-NV) who recently announced that he will run for the US Senate, voted yes on this Bill jeopardizing hundreds of thousands of senior citizens who are on Medicare along with future senior citizens in the State of Nevada.

Representative Shelley Berkley (D-NV) who is currently the Congresswoman for Nevada’s 1st Congressional District (CD1) has said that she will run for the U.S. Senate seat that will be vacated by retiring Senator John Ensign (R-NV) in 2012.

Berkley has represented Nevada’s CD1 since 1999.

Berkley said in part: "This race is about a clear choice for Nevada's future," she said. "While Dean Heller is proudly fighting on behalf of the tea party to dismantle Medicare and Social Security and protect corporations that ship American jobs overseas, I will continue working on behalf of Nevada's middle-class families by creating good paying jobs and keeping our promises to seniors."

Reid to allow vote in US Senate to defund ‘Obamacare’ part of budget compromise - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

Reid to allow vote in US Senate to defund ‘Obamacare’ part of budget compromise - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

This past Friday night Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) and President Barack Obama found a way to compromise on the remainder of the budget for 2011 and avert a government shutdown.

The 11th hour deal is being hailed as a victory by both in the Democratic Party and in the Republican Party, with President Obama calling it an historical deal that will create the largest government budget cuts in history, $78.5 billion.

Included in the deal were guarantees by Senator Reid that he would allow a vote in the Senate to deny funding to President Obama’s signature health care reforms, The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, aka “Obamacare”, which was signed into Law on March 23, 2009.

Back in January when the Republicans took control of the House their very first Bill H.R. 1, was to repeal the health care reforms. The Bill past along Party lines as expected, but the Republicans knew that the Senate, which is controlled by the Democrats and Senator Reid, would never allow it to come to the floor for a vote. That is until now.

Nevada’s Congressional leaders will forgo paychecks if Government is shutdown - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

Nevada’s Congressional leaders will forgo paychecks if Government is shutdown - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

Nevada’s three House Representatives have all said that they will not accept their paychecks if the US Government is shutdown.

This is a symbolic gesture and somewhat disingenuous on their part for a several reasons. Its symbolic because there is no law that requires them to forgo pay if they shutdown the government, which may be admirable, but it is also expected by their constituents.

Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-NV) who said she will not accept her paycheck if there is a shutdown, had also presented legislation, H.R. 819, which basically said that not only will Congress forgo pay during a shutdown, but so would the President. Needless to say, the Republican run House put H.R. 819 at the bottom of the stack, or as some might say, the Bill was placed in a circular file.

President Barack Obama announces reelection campaign for 2012 - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

President Barack Obama announces reelection campaign for 2012 - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

In case any of you were wondering if President Obama was going to run for reelection, there is no more need to wonder, yes he is, and Yes he Can, WIN!!!

Today the President sent an E-Mail to all of his supporters announcing his reelection, here is the E-Mail I received:

Today, we are filing papers to launch our 2012 campaign.

We're doing this now because the politics we believe in does not start with expensive TV ads or extravaganzas, but with you -- with people organizing block-by-block, talking to neighbors, co-workers, and friends. And that kind of campaign takes time to build.

So even though I'm focused on the job you elected me to do, and the race may not reach full speed for a year or more, the work of laying the foundation for our campaign must start today.

We've always known that lasting change wouldn't come quickly or easily. It never does. But as my administration and folks across the country fight to protect the progress we've made -- and make more -- we also need to begin mobilizing for 2012, long before the time comes for me to begin campaigning in earnest.

As we take this step, I'd like to share a video that features some folks like you who are helping to lead the way on this journey. Please take a moment to watch:

Love him or hate him, the President and the leader of the Democratic Party, is in it, to win it.
