Proposed Congressional budget cuts will devastate Nevada - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

Proposed Congressional budget cuts will devastate Nevada - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

As we here in Nevada watch Governor Brian Sandoval submit a budget that will gut services for the poor, senior citizens, children, medical care, education, and Nevada’s future economy, our congressional leaders in the US Congress are also pushing to put Nevadans in danger with their proposed budget cuts.

And just as Governor Sandoval looks to lower taxes on businesses, so are those in Washington DC. In fact 2/3rds of America’s top 100 corporations already pay no taxes on the billions of dollars that they rake in. And many of those corporations receive millions and in some cases billions in tax returns or tax credits. Republicans expect all American workers, the unemployed and the poor to make up the lost revenue.

Here is just a sampling of what Washington politicians will be doing to Nevada if they get their budget cuts.:

Governor Sandoval adds his name to anti-labor and anti-education fights - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

Newly elected Governor Brian Sandoval has jumped onto the Republican bandwagon to fight against Unions, teachers, firefighters, police officers, nurses and maintenance workers in the United States.

The national Republican plan which is being implemented in every State with a Republican Governor is to lower wages for everyone, union and non-union, get rid of pension plans, health care plans and all other benefits that all Americans currently receive thanks to Union bargaining over the last 100 years.

Then privatize everything so various companies and corporations can profit off of your cheap labor and your tax dollars. You will no longer have to worry about companies and corporations hiring illegal immigrants because Republicans and the corporations they work for are creating their very own 3rd world workforce made up of what use to be America’s middle-class.

The Republicans are attacking school teachers and even their schools in both K-12 and higher education systems all across America. Republicans want to eliminate the Department of Education and the public school system and have kids go to private schools, or at least the ones that can afford it, vouchers rarely cover the entire tuition to these private schools. And here in Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval is leading that charge.

Nevada Reps. Heller and Heck jobs not number one issue - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

Nevada Reps. Heller and Heck jobs not number one issue - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

This past November dozens of new republicans were elected to the US House of Representatives because they said that they know how to create jobs and that they would repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, aka “Obamacare”.

The first Bill they voted on was for the repeal of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The Bill to repeal was passed but the Republican leadership knew that that would be as far as it would go because the Senate and the White house are controlled by the Democrats.

Prior to last Novembers election, the cry of “where are the jobs” was echoed by every republican running for office, any office.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act one year anniversary - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

On March 23, 2010 President Barack Obama signed into law the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, one of many laws that Republicans have vowed to stop regardless of how many people are killed while trying to end it.

The new Republican controlled House promised to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and their very first piece of legislation which passed the House said just that. But they knew it was merely a appeasement to their right wing base knowing full well it would never get passed by the Senate or signed by the President.

Many of the new laws have already kicked in and Republicans hate it. They hate it because it was passed by Democrats and their corporate donors have instructed them to get rid of it.

Senator Ensign addresses Nevada legislature one last time - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

Senator Ensign addresses Nevada legislature one last time - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

Senator John Ensign who announced that he will not seek reelection earlier this month spoke to both chambers of the Nevada legislature yesterday using his time to talk about the booms and busts that Nevada has gone through over the decades and to paint the US Congress as inept.

Senator Ensign has been part of that inept Congress since 1995, first in the House of Representatives, then as a US Senator since 2001, but he only sees others as the cause of the problems currently facing our nation. This is also the same characteristic flaw he has shown in his personal life where he only admitted to an affair because it was about to be made public.

In his farewell speech to the legislature Ensign said, “As members of the Nevada Legislature, you are required by law to balance the state budget. Unfortunately, the United States government is not required to do the same despite the efforts that I have led back in Washington to change this.”

“Does this make sense to any one of you? Families are required to balance their budgets; businesses are required to; states are required to do the same; and yet, the United States government is under no such requirement to ensure that the money it spends is not outweighing the money that it takes in.”

But that didn’t stop Ensign from voting on two wars that were off the books and not paid for andwill ultimately end up costing trillions of dollars. There was no attempt to offset the cost of the two wars with spending cuts somewhere else or seeking to increase revenue through higher taxes. As you know he voted to cut taxes that went to mostly rich people and corporations.

During the time that Ensign was a US Senator he more than doubled our National Debt and more than doubled the size of the Federal government. But none of that was his fault, even though he voted in favor of all the spending, after all he only has one vote, how could he be held responsible.

Ensign spoke of how Nevada needs to diversify its economy to create a new source of jobs, but he never met an education Bill that he liked that involved public education that would help Nevada with its diversification. And since President Barack Obama took office, Senator Ensign has voted against every jobs program that had come up for a vote.

Senator Ensign also said, “The next 21 months of my term in the United States Senate will be devoted to ensuring that the state of Nevada and this country are left better than before I first took office 14 years ago. Reducing government spending, balancing the federal budget, and improving education in America are at the top of my list.”

And when the Senator retires at the end of 2012, he will click his heels three times and say, “there’s no place like home”.

Her announcement has given cause for some Nevada republicans to breathe a sigh of relief, while others may be thinking here we go again.

Sources close to Dean Heller have told the Nevada News Bureau that the Congressman will seek the US Senate seat currently held by Senator John Ensign who recently announced that he will retire and not run for re-election in 2012.

While Heller has yet to make a formal announcement his release of an internal poll last month which showed him beating all Democratic opponents in a General Election indicated that he has a strong desire to run. And now that Ensign has pulled out, the job of winning the GOP primary has been made much easier for him and would allow him to focus most of his campaign contributions against his opponent during the run for the General Election.

For the Democrats, all eyes are currently watching and waiting to see what Congresswoman Shelley Berkley’s decision will be. Berkley who represents Nevada’s 1st congressional district is well liked and the district itself leans democrat.

Republican budget cuts attack children, seniors, veterans and the poor - Las Vegas Democrat | Examiner.com

Nevadans need to call Congressman Joe Heck and Congressman Dean Heller and let them know that their proposed budget cuts in the House are immoral because they attack those that need the governments help the most.

The House Republicans proposed budget does little to help cut our deficit, in fact the proposed cuts will actually add $2.5 trillion to our deficit according to the CBO, and will endanger millions of Americans. Their budget proposal attacks children, senior citizens, veterans, the poor and working Americans.

And it gives billions of our tax dollars to corporations and the rich. What else is new.

Senator John Ensign (R-NV) is expected to announce that he will not seek re-election in 2012 according to an AP report. Ensign is expected to make his announcement at 12:00 noon.

After announcing that he would run again last year, the embattled Senator has seen little support by Nevada republicans for his re-election. Senator Ensign had admitted to an affair with a campaign worker and has been accused of paying $96,000 in hush money to her and her family to keep it quiet.
