Republicans don’t want your Tea Party candidates, they just want your votes

Republicans don’t want your Tea Party candidates, they just want your votes

Earlier this year the Tea Party of Nevada candidate for US Senate Scott Ashjian (T-NV) created a firestorm when he qualified to be on this Novembers ballot to contest the seat currently held by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV).

The moment the story broke, the Republican response was to denounce the Tea Party of Nevada and its candidate by claiming that he was a stalking horse for Reid. Claims made without any substance or evidence that Ashjian had even talked to Senator Reid.

The Republican controlled Tea party groups in Nevada denounced Ashjian and the Tea Party of Nevada calling him a fake. Lies were made of Ashjian and he was even taken to court to have his name removed from the November ballot, a case he won, but it is now being appealed in Nevada’s Supreme Court. The Republicans have thrown everything at Ashjian except the kitchen sink.

Now, the exact same thing that had happened to Scott Ashjian and the Tea Party of Nevada is taking place in Florida, where the Florida Tea Party has qualified its own candidate for the House of Representatives.

Sue Lowden, how low will she go?

Yesterday an attack ad campaign that targets Senator Harry Reid and the MGM Mirage - CityCenter made its debuted. Mr. Brown has teamed up with one of the “birthers’ the people that think President Obama is not an American.

These two mudslingers have created a series of ads that are nothing more than slime and half truths. And Sue Lowden condones the work by these sleaze artists and has lowered herself down to their level in the mud pit.

RNC Chairman Michael Steele opens mouth and inserts his foot, again

RNC Chairman Michael Steele opens mouth and inserts his foot, again

Republican National Committee Chairman (RNC) Michael Steele in a rush to denounce President Obama’s pick of Solicitor General Elena Kagan for the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS), sent out a Memo Monday morning saying that Kagan did not support the Constitution and said it “was defective”.

Right after President Obama made his announcement and before Kagan reached the lectern to give her speech accepting the nomination, Chairman Steele sent out his Memo wanting to be the first Republican to make false accusations about her character. As Bush once proudly said, “Mission Accomplished”.

The remark that Chairman Steele was referring to came from a 1993 tribute she wrote in the Texas Law Review for Thurgood Marshall who had just died at the time and whom Kagan worked for as a Supreme Court clerk. She quoted from a speech Marshall gave in 1987 in which he said that the Constitution as originally conceived and drafted was “defective.” (Complete speech by Kagan can be read here),

Marshall cited in particular the definition in the original Constitution to slaves as representing three-fifths of “free Persons” when counting the nation’s population. That reference was rendered moot after the Civil War with the ratification of the 13th and 14th amendments abolishing slavery and granting full citizenship to all people born in the U.S.

Excerpt from Marshall’s speech that pertains to the heart of Steele’s memo.

"Party of No" changes tune to “I object” this past Friday 108 times

"Party of No" changes tune to “I object” this past Friday 108 times

This past Friday morning Democratic Senators asked for approval on 108 White house nominations and Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) said, “I object” to each of the nominees.

The Republican party has been defying current Senate rules through a loophole in the wording which says that Senators must publish their identities and justifications for holds within six legislative days, but the Republicans don’t care about the Senate rule. They just have another Republican Senator place the secret hold on the sixth day.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), called the practice "hold-laundering," which is when senators pass a secret hold off to one another before hitting the six-day trigger for making their names public and thereby keep a hold in place indefinitely.

Senator Coburn stood on the Senate floor representing these republicans who put the secret holds on the nominees so they wouldn’t have to show their face or their pettiness.

In February Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL) was outed by President Obama and Democrats in Congress for his call for a near blanket hold on any and all White house nominations including the 70 White house nominees that Shelby himself personally blocked because he didn’t get enough pork for projects that he requested in for his State.

Gov. Gibbons latest attack on Brian Sandoval is justified

Yesterday Governor Jim Gibbons (R-NV) released a press statement attacking Brian Sandoval (R-NV) that at first looks like another smear job by the governor, but the press release quotes Sandoval from 2002 when he was running for Attorney General and this could damage Sandoval’s chances to win the republican primary this June 8th where the current polls have him leading Gibbons.

Sandoval said that he would enforce a law even if he found it unconstitutional, including a law requiring Jews to wear Stars of David on their clothing.

Vote for your favorite Chickens for Checkups video

Vote for your favorite Chickens for Checkups video

The Nevada Democratic Party would like your vote to pick the winner for the Chickens for Checkups video contest. Hurry voting ends tonight.

By now you've probably heard about GOP Senate candidate Sue Lowden's health care plan for Nevadans: bring your doctor a chicken or offer to paint his house. It's the revolutionary Chickens for Checkups plan, which has made Lowden a laughingstock across the nation. Even The Colbert Report took a shot at Lowden last night with a hilarious segment. "Remember what your mother always said: In case you go to the hospital, always wear clean underwear and carry plenty of farm animals," Colbert quipped.

What could make the wheels come off embattled Sue Lowden's campaign like this? That's right: Bartergate.

But, if Chickens for Checkups, Cluckers for Chemo, or Hens for Healthcare doesn't seem realistic for your family - I mean, how many of us have livestock handy for trading? - then here's a contest that you'll love.

The Nevada State Democratic Party asked supporters to make funny videos highlighting how ridiculous Lowden's Chickens for Checkups plan really is. We picked our two favorites, and now it’s time for you to pick the winner.

Watch the videos below, and then CLICK HERE to vote for your favorite.

Sue Lowden gets some support for her often repeated “gaffe”

US Senate candidate Sue Lowden (R-NV) has been getting lots of criticism over the last several days for her suggestion that patients should barter with their doctors for payment of service.

In case you missed her statement on the TV show Nevada Newsmakers she said (video below):

"You know, before we all started having health care, in the olden days our grandparents, they would bring a chicken to the doctor, they would say I’ll paint your house," she said. "I mean, that’s the old days of what people would do to get health care with your doctors. Doctors are very sympathetic people. I’m not backing down from that system."

The above statement by Lowden was in response to her original statement that she made in Mesquite where she said:

"And I would have suggested, and I think that bartering is really good. Those doctors who you pay cash, you can barter, and that would get prices down in a hurry," she said. "And I would say go out, go ahead out and pay cash for whatever your medical needs are, and go ahead and barter with your doctor."

And to this day she continues to stand by her statement while her staff tries to back her away from it.

But when she stands by her statement and continues to repeat it in various forms, it is NOT a gaffe. A gaffe is something that is said off the cuff by mistake one time, Lowden has been given the chance to back away from her statement on more than one occasion and she says she stands by her statement, which means it is NOT a gaffe.

Some of her supporters such as the conservative newspaper the Las Vegas Review-Journal are calling her statement a gaffe, “In response to the bartergate gaffe, Lowden went on the offensive.” And even some right wing bloggers have picked up on the talking point, and have begun calling it a gaffe to soften the well deserved ridicule she has been receiving for her statement that is not a gaffe.

Lowden had even gotten a doctor to write a letter to the Review-Journal in support of bartering. Dr. Robin Titus, a friend of Sue Lowden, sent a letter to the editor of the Las Vegas Review-Journal in support of the barter system. Dr. Titus says in the letter that she has “bartered with patients -- for alfalfa hay, a bath tub, yard work and horse shoeing in exchange for my care.”

Sue Lowden did not make a gaffe, a mistake, or a blunder, because she stands by her statement, she continues to repeat her statement of bartering with doctors and she even had a friend of hers write a letter in support of her barter health care plan. No gaffes, just a very bad idea. It may play well in rural locations, but not in most suburban areas and cities where the majority of Americans live and work.
